Choronic Pain,mistakes,pifalls

the Greek philosopher Aristotle is reported to have said
Hope on the Horizon
The Greek philosopher Aristotle is reported to have said "Pain upsets and destroys the persons who feels it." However, there are some very important factors that you have to think about relative to learning how to cope and manage your chronic pain.
People living with chronic pain life is tough and it is exhausting. Some of the information I found in this list,I do myself. It is a guide for people with chronic pain.Something I need...until I became ill,I followed in my mother's footsteps. She was like the energizer bunny, going and going.Everything had to be done, nothing left undone. The house just so,laundry done,go,go,go.I did it for years.Raising three daughters, employed outside the home, helping my husband with business venutures.Superwoman.
No more.I just can't and I have to learn that it's ok.

* Wanting everything to be the way it used to be prior to the injury, pain, or problem. Everything has changed now and you have to work on grieving over your past abilities and then moving on to find ways of living with your capabilities as they are now, pacing activities, and being more realistic about what you can and cannot do.

* Trying to get everything done when feeling good because you know you will feel bad later. This insures that you will have even more bad times and many ups and downs with your pain problems.

* Forgetting to take breaks every twenty minutes, to change positions, do something different, or just to rest. It is easy for time to get away from you and have a few hours pass since you have moved or slowed down.

* Thinking that it will all get better "if I push hard enough and work to get back to where I was before." This is a major mistake. You can improve and be more functional, but now some things have changed and you have to learn an entirely new way of handling things.
----------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- -

These are just a few,reminders...we may not be who we were.We have to adjust our priorities.I'm wishing I had done it years ago.
I have to put myself first now,I don't have a choice.I wish I had done it when I was well,I can't go back. But I refuse to carry extra baggage,so I'm getting rid of my guilt bag,for good.
In doing that,it leaves room for hope.I'll take hope over guilt any day.

New York State Gov. David Paterson checked himself into hospital on Tuesday with symptoms of a migraine headache and preliminary test results were normal, the governor’s office said."

"He is now resting comfortably and will undergo further tests during the course of the day," it said in a statement.

People misleadingly call Migraine attacks "headaches" when it is much more than that, and the governor knows just that. Migraine “headaches” are actually caused by the inflammation in the head and is the result of neurological disease-like disorder which causes intense pain, light sensitivity, nausea and more - it can ruin your day or sometimes last a week long, slowly building and then climaxing in intense periods of nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

Symptoms of Migraine and its signs include moderate to severe pain, head pain, pain that worsens with physical activity, pain that interferes with your regular activities, nausea with or without vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound.

This is such an important statement....how any times have I heard at the er "oh,a headache"

Gov. David A. Paterson underwent successful laser surgery for acute glaucoma in his left eye yesterday and planned to recuperate at his Harlem apartment today.

You see,it was much more than a headache...It was glaucoma.Thankfully for him,he is a man and not a woman.Thankfully he has insurance, that the taxpayers pay for.

I may sound resentful,it's only because I am.I want equal treatment.I'm glad for the govenor. But I think we all deserve to have the same healthcare.
I'm resentful because I need help,I'm tired of pain.I'm tired of disrespect. And I feel my former insurance company are crimianals for calling my thyroid condition pre-existing that wasn't and I lost all my doctors because they then put every test, doctor, whatever under thyroid....stopped paying my endo, never paid my internal med doctor, who also was my gp,gyn.
All men are created equal....we are as women,we are as taxpayers.I should have the same right as the govenor,as Ted Kennedy, after all,we pay for their care.

Some migraine meds deadly???

May 18th 2008 04:13
I update daily newsfeeds on my website http://mymigraines.com and always take the time to read them.I was surprised to find an article re: Triptans. These are meds used as migaine abortives, such as Zomig,Imitrex,Relpax.
It has been known for some time triptans taken with certain serotonin inhibators like Paxal and Zoloft could cause Serotonin Syndrome,a rare but potentially fatal drug interaction. In the May 15 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine is the first information triptans on their own have been linked to the disorder. There are 11 cases of Serotonin Syndrome that were reported to the FDA,with the use of triptans alone. These are detailed by the FDA and researchers from Georgetown University in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Those with this syndrome associate only with triptan therapy average age was 39.9years old.The study found most common symptoms were high blood pressure, tremor, palpitaitions ,agitation. Two cases were "life-threatening."A total of five people required hospitaliztion.Four of the 11 were cleared.
I find this news extremely important and do not understand why it's not all over the news.It scares the crap out of me....I'm taking a copy of the orignal article to my doctor and I am going to ask her to post it,maybe I'll make a couple of extra copies and see if she'll post them in the lobby.

I'm so dizzy,my head is spinning

May 16th 2008 02:04
Now,I'll show my age. That song keeps going thru my head.Between the stress today and the crazy weather,I've been so dizzy,I thought I'd just pass out.
It's weird how you're just walking thru the house and you get that feeling, the same one I used to get on a roller coaster ride.Or just sitting still, there's that spinning feeling.
Now,my pain level in my head has gone up so much,I don't know what to do.I did take a nap,but the constant ringing in my ears was driving me nuts..The dreams were more like hallucinations

I absolutely loved it and am grateful for every second of every minute. It's a memory I'll cling to and hope they will remember

PTSD and Chronic Migraine

May 8th 2008 03:00
So,looking through articles I came upon one that discussed a link between chronic migraine and post-traumatic stress disorder. than in those with episodic migraine headache,I've never been diagnosed with it,but know that I have PTSD.Growing up in a large family, nice home,my mom stayed at home.I'm 50,so that's the way things were at the time.
From the outside, things looked good.Nice house, well kept,my dad worked hard to support us.In fact,he did what he could not to be home. And when he was there,he wasn't really "there."
At a young age,my mom had three kids in three years.I don't know when the doctors started her on pills....it was before I was born. She also had shock treatments before I was born.I'm sure that permanent damage was done. Now,I know my mom grew up in an abusive environment. And this can and did lead to a ripple effect to the next generation

Information is important

May 7th 2008 05:30
I know that stress is a trigger for my pain level to go up.And the weather.Well, being slammed with both puts my pain level to the top.I've also had something I've gone thru before, which is flu symptoms. And like alot of thing,it gets worse at night.
I had been to a neuro for a consultation awhile back and someone was to contact me about a cat scan.He thought my facial pain was sinus.Well, our hospital's been a mess,it's closed as far as admitting patients, until they can pass inspection. So,I thought maybe I hadn't heard because of the mess they're in.I called the clinic today and they told me the neuro office was to have scheduled it.
When the clinic called back, they said the dr at the clinic didn't feel I needed the cat scan because it had been for the facial pain and now they didn't feel I needed it.........ummmm I never said that pain was gone.I have to call back tomorrow and get an appt at the clinic to see the dr

Beware of Migraine Cures

May 3rd 2008 00:39
Please beware of any claims of migraine cures.Just as I recently wrote on a forum, if you find something works for you,let people know, that it helped you.Just as someone I know had cancer over 20yrs ago,has been cancer free all these years. That does not mean there's a cure for cancer.
There have been people with MS and it's gone into remission for years or they may never have symptoms again. That doesn't mean MS is cured.
Migraine is a complicated disease. It is wonderful if people get rid of migraine.Like I said, pass on what you believe worked for you.You should share it.But claims of cures...no
