Advice,Don't you Love It?
July 28th 2010 18:57
Everyone who gives you advice about headache, migraine, means well...they read, they saw, they know someone who took, who did,who went to...and was cured!
And I especially love the patronizing tone, minimizing what you're going through, not to mention a person you've known for some time suddenly saying they get a headache and boy, I just take this and it's gone, have you tried it?
Our disease is a difficult one to cope with...the pain is bad enough. The fear for those who get severe attacks, living with that anticipation is just mind boggling.
Those we work with,go to school with, live with can not possibly get what you go through. Even fellow migraineurs,we have our own experience. None are exactly the same.
But we must be there for one another. If you suffer from headaches, if you have migraine disease, please find a support group. If the group does not work out for you,try to find someone who you can lean on when you really need it.
For those well meaning who want to give advice, you may have some good information to pass along. Please, when giving it, watch your timing. You don't want to have a good idea to pass along when someone's in severe pain, or depressed. Pass it along when they are feeling up to listening. And be there for them as much as you can.
Support from caring people when so much needed is so important.
