Magnesium Relieves Migraines By K Lea Brown
Migraine sufferers will try anything to rid themselves of this intense pain. They turn out the lights, draw the shades, and retreat to a quiet area. Some will try several products at one time, hoping that one of them will halt the pain. They take everything from narcotics to Botox injections to prevent them. But approximately fifty percent cannot rid themselves of this pain. Most of these migraine sufferers have a low level of magnesium in their bodies.
Studies have revealed that nearly one-half of migraine sufferers have a low magnesium level. Magnesium is sometimes called the "anti-stress" mineral. Magnesium supplementation has been used for years for relaxation. It relaxes muscle tissue and thus helps to relax your body.
There are many triggers of migraine headaches: red wine, beer, cheese, flashing lights, msg, and many, many others. One of the main triggers is stress. Stress triggers migraines by clamping down on muscles, nerve fibers, and the circulatory system. Taking magnesium can reduce the number of migraines one has and also reduce the duration and intensity of the migraine.
You may ask, "Don't we get enough magnesium in our food?" No. Decades ago the soil was fresher, it had not been fertilized and had pesticides lain upon it season after season. Most of our soil is depleted in many nutrients. Another reason for the depletion of magnesium in our bodies is the food and liquid we ingest. We have become a society that functions on caffeine, sugar, and alcohol. We eat fast food, canned food, and frozen foods most of the time. All of these toxins deplete our body of magnesium.
Many migraine sufferers use caffeine to help relieve a migraine, most without success. Caffeine can extend a migraines duration. The caffeine stimulates the muscles, nerves, fibers, and circulatory system and may cause a rebound migraine. Caffeine should be eliminated in the diet of all migraine sufferers.
