My Warning About Effexor XR
April 5th 2008 01:40
Ok,usually I don't get into naming meds, but I am going to right now.I take effexor xr.I had insurance at the time my doctor I trusted put me on it.I did not question her.Even though I didn't feel I needed any other meds.I was on klonopin,I had found out that I hashimoto thyroiditis, and it had caused me to have panic attacks,so that's why I was on that.
In my opinion effexor is a very dangerous drug.I was on 150mg and I cut the dose in half myself. But,I can't get it any lower or get off of it.One night I had forgotten to take my dose and I woke up hallucinating.I thought someone was in the house,I thought it was a woman.I yelled at her to get out, that I knew she was stealing.Even though somewhere in the back of my mind,I knew it wasn't real,I was terrified.
I called my husband,I always keep my cell phone with me.I told him to come home quickly, that I was hallucinating,I couldn't get out of bed.
Now,when I try to cut it in half,I have ringing in my ears,it gets louder and louder. Then,I get this drum beating sound that gets louder, too. After that,is the hallucinating.
I have never had to go through this before in my life.I write this in hopes that anyone who is suggestted this drug by a doctor,to carefully consider if they should take it or not. When my doctor prescribed this to me,I beleive she got a kickback.
A doctor should look out for your best interest. They should not be drug pushers. She said I had high anxiety.Of course I did.I did have alot of stress in my life, but more than that, the amount of pain that had taken over my life was worse.
I feel I should be able to hold that doctor accountable.I didn't ask for another med.I told her I had always had been careful about what I took. Before thyroid and migraine I took nothing more than ibuprofen.
Here's the thing, thyroid and migraine often go hand in hand. And there are thousands of people walking around with thryoid problems being treated for emotional or mental problems who have no idea it's their thyroid.
In fact,if I didn't have nodules in my neck, thyroid most likely would've been overlooked.
Please,be careful, don't be afraid to ask questions or check out a med before it's prescribed for you.I was brought up to trust the doctor, you have the right, the obligation to yourself to ask questions, stand up for yourself, think.
